ATLANTA DRAGWAY CROWNS 2002 "TEAM TOYOTA ALL-IMPORT CHALLENGE" CHAMPION

Trinh Nguyen locked up the inaugural "Team Toyota All-Import Challenge" season championship on Friday night, August 23rd at Atlanta Dragway.  Nguyen, of Norcross, Georgia, strung together several fast runs in the previous nine "All-Import Challenge" races this season - including an outright victory on Friday, August 16th and a third place finish on the championship night - to ice the 2002 title in his hot 1992 Honda Civic.

"This is awesome," an elated Nguyen exclaimed after learning of his points championship. "I started racing in the 'All-Import Challenge' just to see what my car would do, but when I saw how much fun it was and that I was leading the points, I decided to just go for it (the championship)."

The final round of this year's "All-Import Challenge" was won by first-time racer Sayitr Sritongkham of Atlanta, who recorded the fastest quarter mile pass of the ten-race series (11.75 seconds) in his 1993 Mazda RX7 and took home the coveted "Smack The Track" trophy.

Team Toyota, season sponsor for the "All-Import Challenge", will provide a commemorative leather jacket and trophy for the new champion, who is already planning to defend his championship next year in the series that has sparked new interest in the dragstrip's Barnett Performance "Fast Friday" program.

Located in Commerce, Georgia, Atlanta Dragway is sanctioned by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and has presented the Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals, now an NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event, for 22 years.
