1960s and 1970s Atlanta Super Stock and Pro Stock driver Oscar Tool Man Roberts passed away Friday, April 22, 2005. We would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Oscar Roberts.
Oscar Roberts headed up the two car Pro Stock team owned by Walt Ballard. Oscar drove this Yankee Jo Duster (a former Reid Whisnant car) and it was named for Walt's wife, Jo Ballard. Harold Clark drove the other car (the former Bill Stiles Duster) that was converted from a Duster to a Dart Sport and named the Dixie Sport. I'm not sure about the location of the photo, but I think it is Phenix City, Alabama. -- David Dilbeck.
This photo of Oscar Roberts (in his Camaro Pro Stocker at speed) was taken in October, 1971. The event was promoter Charles Hardy's Southeastern $15,000 held at Dallas, Georgia. The event was competition for the Atlanta Speed Shop Dragway's Atlanta $10,000 race held annually (since 1964) in October. The races were held on different weekends. Sorry for the poor photo, but I'm glad I have this one. -- David Dilbeck.
