Marvin JonesM. F. Red Jones Marvin Red Jones of Dallas, Georgia passed away early Saturday morning (April 23, 2005) at the age of 81. Mr. Jones constructed and operated the first "purpose built" dragstrip in Georgia. Located near Dallas, it opened July 4th, 1955. It was originally named "Red's Drag Strip" and went through several names in its continuous 50 year operation. It was called Dallas Drag Strip, Southeastern International Dragway and continues to operate under Southeastern Dragway. The Hardy family has managed the facility for years, but Mr. Jones continued to own the property. We would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. M. F. Jones.
Thanks to Jimmy Mosteller, Hall of Fame auto racing announcer and much more, for sharing this photo. Thanks to Fred Simmons for his assistance, too.
