Hubert Platt's famous '57 Chevy. His relationship with Terminal
Transport was the "beginning of the end" for the small time operator/drag
racer. With corporate advertising budget/money he could afford several cars
brought them to track using a big car hauler. I recall he broke a
transmission in early trial runs, went back to trailer, got a new one out of
wooden crate, installed it, and was ready to run in time for elimination's.
Most of the other guys would have had to tow their broken racer home and
save money for several months to replace the transmission. Deep pockets
makes a big difference.
I'd guess the year was 1961- photo taken in the "pit area" at Camp Wheeler
drag strip near Macon Georgia. The good spots in pit area had a
tree.
