Billy Holt's Alabamian

(Return to Georgia Drag Racing Photo Gallery main page.)

Photos of Billy Holt's series of Alabamian drag cars that were recently submitted to GDR by the Holt Family. Billy raced his cars all over the Southeast and frequently in Georgia. He will be inducted into the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame (Henderson, NC) in October, 2004. Congratulations to a well deserving gentleman from GeorgiaDragRacing.com!

Alabamian I
Billy's Corvette AA/FC was driven by Gary Fowler. This great looking car was painted by George Busti (Detroit, MI) and lettered by Chuck Berg (Montgomery, AL). Logghe chassis, 392 Chrysler, and a B&M TorqueFlite were some of the specs. Info from the Holt family - photographer unknown.

Alabamian II
Billy's 1971 Vega F/C was also driven by Gary Fowler. This one also featured a Logghe chassis, a B&M ClutchFlite, and was 426 Hemi powered. Info from the Holt family - photographer unknown.

Alabamian III
This was probably Mr. Holt's most famous car. A wild paint job and very strong performances were this cars trademark. The late model hemi ( 426 ) powered machine was driven by Wayne Mahaffey. The custom paint was applied by Duke ( Little Rock, Arkansas ). This one had a 2 speed Lenco. I believe this shot was taken at the 1972 Gatornationals - if so, I was there! Info from the Holt family - photographer unknown.

Alabamian V
This rear engined Vega had a short life. The chassis was built by Don Hardy and it feaured a 426 backed up with a Lenco 2 speed. This photo was shot at the entrance of Six Flags Over Georgia (by either Steve Reyes or Jeff Tinsley) for publication in Super Stock & Drag Illustrated, but the car met with disaster at Madison Conty Dragway in Alabama before publication. The photos were never published in SS&DI. Info from the Holt family.

Alabamian VII
This is a Kendall Oil handout of Alabamian VII. This was a different choice of bodies for Billy as he changed to a Plymouth Satellite. Pee Wee Wallace handled the driving chores on the 1900 lb., 484 ci Hemi powered flopper. Atlanta Customs applied the paint and the lettering was performed by Keenum Signs. This one was raced in 1973 and 1974. Info from the Holt family.

Alabamian VIII
This 2002 Cameron TAD is driven by Greg Holt (Billy's son). Scott Holt applied the red and gold paint. It is powered by a 525 ci Keith Black Olds engine that features a 8-71 Littlefield High Helix blower. A Lenco 3 speed mates to the engine, and a Greg Holt Motorsports Timing & Controls Fuel Management System is used. Photo taken at Albany, GA by the Holt family.
