If you weren't able to attend Sol and Anne Stewart's 3rd Annual Old Drag Racers Reunion in Panama City, Florida last year (2003), Frank Moye, Jr.'s video coverage of the awards ceremony is the closest you can get to being there. Drag racing fans, especially fans of southern drag racing, will enjoy seeing some of the pioneers from the golden years of drag racing on this video.
The 2003 inductees into the Old Drag Racers Hall of Fame included these Georgia drag racing stars: Hoyt Grimes (the granddaddy of Southeastern drag racing), Hubert Platt (the Georgia Shaker), Ellis Milner (still racing a Pro Mod '57 Chevy driven by his daughter Lynne), and the late Buster Couch. The remaining 2003 inductees were: Rex Goodson (posthumously), Herman Moore (posthumously), Jimmy Arnold and Aubrey Padgett.
Hoyt Grimes received his award from his son Garry Grimes, Hubert Platt accepted his award from former team mate Randy Payne (Mr. Big Stuff), Lynne Milner presented her father Ellis Milner with his award and Mike Couch (Buster's son) was on hand to accept Buster's award from Phil Bonner.
Edna Goodson (Rex's widow) accepted Rex's award presented by Johnny Jordan. Charles Moore (Herman's son) accepted Herman Moore's award from Billy Big Deal Jacobs, Joe Teuton presented Jimmy Arnold with his Hall of Fame award, and Dennis Bailey presented Aubrey Padgett with his award. Lots of laughs and a few tears, too. Randy Payne's roast...I mean presentation...to Hubert Platt is something you have to see.
David Smith picked up the 2003 Industry Award for Crane Cams and Donald Speedy Ball was presented the Herman Moore Good Sportsman Award by last years winner, Frank Moring. As a bonus, there is a brief tour of some of the cars on display. The video is 2 1/2 hours long and is $15.00 plus $3.50 packaging and shipping.
